The Smarthandle™
An innovative audible alert system that will significantly reduce Inadvertent Slide Deployment within the aviation industry. It is designed not to replace but to complement the existing visual indications with an audible alert, becoming a “last resort” in advising the door operator as to the operational state of the door.
How Does it Work?
When the door operator places the door into the “Armed” position, regardless of whether this is a manual or automatic operation, the pick-up switch detects this movement and arms the Smarthandle.
If the door operator, trained or not, then attempts to open the door, an infra-red sensor will detect the operator’s hand about to grip the handle activating the audible alert, “Door armed... slide will deploy”. This alert is emitted either from the discreet speaker housing, or the hidden trim panel speakers, connected to the power pack and electronics modules, installed behind the door panel.

Smarthandle™ Pressurisation Alert
The Smarthandle™ alongside the “Door armed” audible alert, has the capability of being connected to the aircraft pressurisation warning system (if fitted). This provides an audible alert to prevent the door operator opening the aircraft door whilst residual cabin pressure remains “Caution... aircraft pressurised” preventing an uncontrolled door blow out.
